The publication of naked photographs of Prince Harry 'put a real dampener' on the group’s high jinks in Las Vegas, one of his closest friends said on Thursday.

Arthur Landon, one of Britain’s richest young men, was with Prince Harry during their holiday and said the person who had sold the pictures was “despicable” and had abused the Prince’s hospitality.

Mr Landon, who is worth more than £200 million, told The Daily Telegraph that he suspected the culprit was one the bikini-clad girls who attended the party.

He insisted his friends were “really careful” not to betray the Prince and said none of them would have been involved in the sale of the images.

He spoke out as Prince Harry returned to Britain to explain his antics to aides. He is understood to have returned to Clarence House on Thursday, rather than heading directly to Balmoral in Scotland where Prince Charles and the Queen are on their annual summer break.

New details on Thursday emerged about the Prince’s royal protection officers in Las Vegas. The US website that published the photos reported that the officers failed to ask the partygoers to surrender their phones on entering the lavish hotel suite and made only cursory attempts to prevent the pictures being taken.

TMZ also notes that Prince Harry and the group of revelers were enjoying a night out in Vegas together before the nude photos were captured by a cell phone camera. Radar Online reports the “Party Prince” is also blaming his bodyguards and handlers for not confiscating cell phones.

The Royal Family’s anger allegedly stems from a lack of due diligence by Prince Harry’s handlers and security team. The young women enjoying the company of Prince Harry and his friends were not asked to turn over their cell phones upon entering the Las Vegas suit, which is reportedly standard protocol. Radar Online reports the Royal Family has banned the publication of a naked Prince Harry photos from running in UK tabloids.

As the night of fun continued on, several of Prince Harry’s female companions reportedly began snapping pics of the Royal from their cell phones. According to TMZ, one of Prince Harry’s handlers simply said, “aww, come on – no photos,” but did not confiscate the cell phones or erase the images of Prince Harry partying and in some stage of dress which the Royal Family would likely not consider proper for public viewing.

Prince Harry naked in photos is something which could have been avoided if the Royal’s handlers and security team had not been “asleep at the wheel” and enjoying the party a little bit too much themselves, a source told TMZ. Prince Harry was allegedly playing a game of naked pool when the photos which raised the ire of the Royal Family were taken.
